Tables come in a variety of materials, each valued for different reasons. Depending on why you are purchasing a table, and how you would like it to function, some of the following choices may make more sense to you than others. The most commonly available table materials are:
Wood. Most “traditional” tables are made of some sort of wood. The finish and detail on the wood can vary greatly, but wood is a great choice for quality tables. You may want to keep in mind that it does require regular maintenance, as it chips, scratches, and mars easily. Wood tables may also eventually need to be refinished.
Laminate. For a “wood look” at a fraction of wood’s weight and price, laminate tables are often a great option. They can be manufactured to look like many things, but are commonly printed with wood grains of various color and finish. Laminate tables require much less maintenance and care than wooden ones do, and make a great all around choice for budget-conscious offices.
Metal. Depending on the type and gauge of metal used, metal tables can be some of the most durable options around. Whether they provide your office with the look and feel you desire is up to you—but for durability and strict utility, metal is the way to go.
Plastic. Plastic tables are generally highly mobile, and not meant for solid, stationary everyday work. However, if you are looking for a table to take from site-to-site with you, they are often light, easy to manage, and highly affordable. Check into these tables as temporary and mobile table solutions.
